Salvador Dali By Nathan and Felix
Today we learned about the surrealist painter Salvador Dali in class. He was born in a town called Figueres in north-east Spain. He was intelligent in school but he daydreamed and doodled istead of doing his work. In 1922 Dali went to Madrid to study art. His first exhibition was in Barcelona and his work was well received by the critics. Dali called his paintings “hand-painted dream photographs”. In 1960 Dali was asked to donate a painting to his home town but instead he decided to design a museum of his work instead. It was finished in 1974 and had a very strange design with the walls being bright terracotta and it also had giant eggs and gold statues on the roof. It was named the Theatre-Museum. Salvador Dali died in 1989 and he is buried beneath the Theatre-Museum.
